CheckEAA

EAA check for your website

The European Accessibility Act (EAA) is Directive (EU) 2019/882 of 17 April 2019. It sets accessibility requirements for certain products and services. The free CheckEAA scan finds common accessibility issues on your website and gives you a fix for each one.

What applies since 28 June 2025?

Each EU country implements the directive in its own law. In Germany this is the Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG). It applies to services provided to consumers after 28 June 2025 (§ 1 (3) BFSG), including e-commerce services such as online shops that sell to consumers.

Other member states have their own laws, authorities and fines. This guide only describes the German law in detail.

Which technical requirements are meant?

For websites, the standard EN 301 549 is the practical reference. Its clause 9 takes over the WCAG 2.1 success criteria at levels A and AA for web content. CheckEAA tests against WCAG 2.2 AA and maps every issue to the matching clause of EN 301 549 V3.2.1.

What an automated check can do

A scan reliably finds technical errors such as missing alternative text, low contrast or unlabeled form fields. Whether an alt text fits the image or a menu works well with a keyboard needs a human check. The report is a work list, not a confirmation of compliance and not legal advice.
